Ashley Wilkes - cutting edge digital artist

Artist’s Biography:

Ashley Wilkes is an emerging Minnesota artist who creates never-before-seen or done digital works. Unique in visual content and style.

Philosophy: Never have preconceptions for an art work. Don't create with conscious intent. Let your fingers and mind and creative spirit wander through Adobe Photoshop as if you are on a quest to create and resolve a visual conundrum.

Specialism: Digital art based in digital photography and quantum theory. Artworks I create can be made into gallery wraps or other types of prints up to 6 feet X 10 feet. Most of my art is not like anything ever done. However, some call it surrealism of the digital age. I don't categorize my art nor do I have any ideas or preconceptions
when I start the creative process. Well, to be accurate I have one agenda: to create and resolve a visual puzzle that grabs the emotions of the viewer.

Achievements: Helped create San Francisco's art community, Project Artaud: The
world's largest warehouse-to-artist's-lofts conversion project. See: http:www.artaud.org. Won the Minnesota International Independent Film and Video Festival two consecutive years. Exhibited artwork in Hawaii, California, New York, Minnesota. A recent exhibition was featured in Metro Magazine with my work shown (2007).

Artist’s Statement:

My art, quite without conscious intention, is based in the following notions : Data is not knowledge. Belief is not knowledge. Faith is not knowledge. Belief and faith imply lack of knowledge. Theory is not knowledge. Knowledge is not reality. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not awareness. Awareness is not an end state but is a forever-evolving open state in which art plays a major role in its manifestation. Awareness is always changing/evolving/devolving. Awareness or lack of it are the most critical aspects of human and subhuman expression and interaction. My art is based in the mysteries of existence, awareness, reality, emotion, space, time and infinity.
