Artist’s Biography:
Cathy Wilkes is one of four artists shortlisted for this years Turner Prize. Her installations are formally precise and contemplative. Wilke's work is composed using an eloquent and complex visual vocabulary and characterised by the direct invocation of daily human experience.
Cathy Wilkes was born in Belfast in 1966 and now lives and works in Glasgow. She creates sculptural work, often using shop mannequins.
"Through rigorous, highly charged arrangements of commonplace objects and materials, Wilkes has developed an articulate and eloquent vocabulary that touches on issues of femininity and sexuality," The Tate explains.
"Richly suggestive, elliptical, and movingly understated, Wilkes's work makes you feel time, see mood, touch space," describes The Guardian.
