Miquel Barceló: The African Work- This show consists of a body of works created by the Spanish artist Miquel Barceló, whom is considered one of the most important artists working today. He is a long-time friend of IMMA Director and curator of this show, Enrique Juncosa.

Juncosa will be presenting a diverse selection of about 90 of Barceló's works, clearly representative of his amazing creative output, which has been compared to such great Spanish masters as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Antoni Tapies, as well as with outstanding contemporary European artists namely Francesco Clemente and Anselm Kiefer. His work is saturated with inspiration from his extensive experiences in West Africa, particularly the Dogon area of Mali, where he has owned a home since the early 90's.  Barceló is distinctive in not focusing on the exoticism of the area but rather to the daily life of its inhabitants.

While half of the exhibition includes works on paper, some being shown for the first time, there includes a diverse array of large and small-scale paintings, sculptures, ceramics and sketchbooks. The artist is currently creating a ceiling painting for the Human Rights Hall at the United Nations offices in Geneva. He has recently had a solo exhibition at the Louvre in Paris.
