Artists Xiao Min and Gao Shan, are exhibiting in a duo show at 1918ArtSpace in Shanghai. After years of experimenting with different materials and living together as a couple, these two emerging artists are creating amazing works and have found their ideal materials in steel wire and sponge.
Xiao Min achieves dramatic effects with light by cutting, weaving, forging, and flawlessly
sewing the steel wire to create bodies making love with a Qing dynasty taste, his main
focus being on the way the light plays on the material, resulting in an unusual x-ray effect.
On the other hand, in huge contrast to Xiao's work, Gao Shan cuts big bars of sponge in
precision resulting in super realistic works of people and pigs. She finds a way so that her work "Friends & People" is vividly presented with wonder.
Xiao Min and Gao Shan's exhibition Rigid and Supple Progression is from the 17th May through to 15th June 08 at:
