Exhibition Title: "Just Joking"
Artist Name: Zhou Yilun
Dates: 19th April - 18th May 2008
Website: http://www.andrewjamesart.com
Exhibition Description:
This is Zhou Yilun's second solo exhibition with this gallery. He is a cool and funky individual with his Mohawk haircut, piercing and tattoos. Yilun leads a carefree life, seeming to enjoy all the fun a young man can have in today's society. "His warehouse studio/apartment is strewn with paintings, discarded paint tubes, drum kits, mountain bikes, large sound system and a little cute cat!" says the exhibition curator Andrew James, who describes the artists as 'shocking'. 'Shockingly good' at art, in the classical and contemporary sense, 'the ability to be a free spirit and buck current trends combined with the 'maturity of a skilled hand'.
This young man is highly driven. He lives and breathes art and creativity and at the same time seems to have a punk, almost Banksy feel to his work. Yulin's friends call him "Pen Pen"˜ which is Chinese to spray paint.
Education and Training:
Yilun was born in 1983 in the Hangzhou Zhejiang Province, China. He graduated from Hangzhou China Art Academy oil painting department in 2006.
