Michelle Concepción's abstract paintings create an enigma. The abstract compositions evoke diametrically different interpretations. While some viewers see microscopic organisms, others see asteroids or aquatic plant forms.

"They are like visual meditations, dreamy shapes that appear to be floating in their space," describes Virginia Miller, owner and director of ArtSpace.

Concepcion's subject matter involves an extraordinary illusion of texture. For several years, she has painted using combinations of black, gray and white or shades of blue on an all-black or white background. However, recently her works are bursting with a palette of lush colors: pumpkin, lime, deep scarlet, cobalt blue.

Although this exhibition is Concepción's first solo show in the U.S., she has held a half-dozen solo shows in Germany and Spain. Since 1988 she has participated in 54 group exhibitions in leading museums, galleries and art fairs in the United States and Europe.
