Artist Name: Richard Wilson
Dates: 1st August - 31st August 2008
Website: http://www.thegreygallery.com

Exhibition Description:

As part of the Edinburgh Art Festival 2008, Richard Wilson will be exhibiting a selection of works on paper, a continuous tape loop of four films – Turning The Place Over (an astonishing architectural intervention for Liverpool's year as European City of Culture 2008), Meter’s Running, Break Neck Speed and Butterfly - and, unusually for this artist, a free-standing piece of sculpture 'Hot Dog Roll'.

Wilson is one of Britain’s most famous installation artists and is best known as the man who sold Charles Saatchi a thousand gallons of used sump oil. He has represented Britain at the Sydney, Sao Paulo and Venice Biennales and participated in major museum shows and public works worldwide. His international reputation precedes him.

Wilson comes from a strong sculptural tradition, with drawing, as well as filmmaking, being central to his practice. This exhibition presents an insight into the rudiments of Wilson’s creative process.

Richard Wilson has been nominated for the Turner Prize on two occassions and was awarded the DAAD Fellowship in Berlin 1992/93. In 2006 Wilson was made a Royal Academician.
