Exhibition Title: TRASH
Artist Name: Vivan Sundaram
Dates: 22 April to 17 May 2008
Medium: An exhibition of installation, photographs and video
Website: http://www.gallerychemould.com
Exhibition Description:
Mediating the visual outcome of his lens by using several vantage points, Vivan Sundaram has captured a huge and fantastical cityscape that he has constructed with garbage in his own studio. In continuing the theme from previous exhibitions, the artist explores the social implications of waste at the core of which is the frenzy of global consumption.
Sundaram's arrangement of accumulated filth creates a kind of indulgence, an excess. The colour and texture of industrial waste, dirty toothbrushes, plastic toys, tin cans and a sea of soiled milk bags, all of this makes for optical pleasure that the viewer might derive from a painterly palette.
This exhibition will have a continuing journey of being shown at the forthcoming Biennale of Sydney and will be titled, "Revolutions - Forms that turn". Sundaram will also be showing at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo in a show titled "Theatre of Life: Contemporary Art from India Today".
