Exhibition Title: L'invitation au Voyage

Artist Name: Lucille Marcotte
Dates: 20 September - 6 November
Website: http://www.leviolonbleu.com

Exhibition Description:

Le Violon Bleu will be presenting a new series of paintings by the richly talented Québec artist, Lucille Marcotte. This is the first time she has exhibited her work in London, and promises to be an exceptional introduction to Lucille's iconic minimalist style.

With works depicting the dynamic female figure in bold brush strokes with sparse detailing, Lucille evokes the emotive context and draws the viewer into the frame. Her work is frequently celebrated for their meditative and visceral qualities, each of Lucille's canvases telling a different story.

Description:

Lucille Marcotte has been working and exhibiting in Québec since 2002. She gave up her profession in psychology eight years ago to concentrate on her artistic career. Her concern for the unspoken emotional world that emerges in her artworks frequently imply the contemplative and subconscious. Each canvas communicates the 'unfinished' or the 'non-achieved', inviting viewers closer to consider the absent world of dreams and chimera.

The show consists of a series of fourteen canvases named after a poem by Charles Baudelaire from his infamous collection: The Flowers of Evil. Marcotte has found inspiration in Baudelaire's obsession with the exploration of reality rather than morality through the arts and investigates the multiplicity of female expression just as Baudelaire did through this poem.

This exhibition is supported by the Québec Government Office, London.
