Exhibition Description:
This is Pablo Atchugarry's third solo exhibition at the Albemarle Gallery. He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1954. Atchugarry has used Carrara marble as his principal medium since 1979. He works on the material directly; carving, engraving and filing down the marble until the sculpture has reached a state of equilibrium and harmony. His final work is always architectural, organic and elegant.
Description:

Atchugarry represented Uruguay in the Venice Biennale of 2003; his exhibition, entitled Dreaming of Peace, consisted of an installation of eight sculptures in Carrara Marble and Grey Bardiglio marble.
Many of his sculptures are monumental in stature. The Obelisk of the Third Millennium stands six metres high in the town of Manzano, Udine and his Monument to the Civilisation and Culture of Lecco Labour, carved from a 33 tonne block of Bernini Carrara Marble, stands 6.10 metres tall at the centre of the Caleotto Roundabout in Lecco.
