Exhibition Title: BIAŁO-CZERWONA

Artist Name: Piotr Uklański
Dates: Mar 27 - May 17, 2008, Opening reception for the artist: Thursday Mar 27th, from 6 to 8pm
Website: http://www.gagosian.com/

Exhibition Description:

This is Piotr Uklański's first solo exhibition with the gallery. It includes diverse works that engage typical imagery of his native Poland and play on the red/white palette. The artist has recognised the power within the fluidity of the art world. Where it demands that artists disavow their cultural authenticity one moment and embrace it the next. With this in mind he uses this occasion to embody simultaneously the roles of international artist, Gastarbeiter, new American, and patriotic Pole.

Education and Training:

Uklański was born in 1968 in Warsaw. He has had recent solo exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2007); the Wiener Secession, Vienna (2007); and the Musée d'art moderne et contemporain, Strasbourg (2007). He currently lives in New York and Warsaw.
