Exhibition Title: The Inner Life of Trees
Artist Name: Judith Belzer
Dates: April 24- May 31, 2008, Opening reception: Thursday, April 24, 6-8pm
Medium: oil
Website: http://www.morganlehmangallery.com
Exhibition Description:
In these recent works, Judith Belzer investigates and reveals our relationship to trees and nature by de-generalizing it, pressing closer, and shifting our perception and expectation of it. Her craft unfolds on canvas: subtle movements, plays with light, oil paint laid down thin as skin, tricking the eye into miles of depth.
In our daily lives, it is so common to pass right by nature. Belzer's new work asks us to pause in our modern existence and look deeper, taking one's time to experience it, or even consider our reciprocal relationship to it in terms of our survival.
Belzer is currently living and working in Berkeley, California. She has recently exhibited at The Sonoma County Museum, Santa Rosa, CA, Valerie Carberry Gallery, Chicago, IL and The Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, NY.
